The City of Thousand Oaks, located in Ventura County, is a wonderful community recognized for being one of the most desirable places in all of California to live, work, play, and raise a family. It’s located in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains with over 15,000 acres of natural publicly owned open space located within the City’s boundaries.  

Thousand Oaks prides itself on its open space with 75 miles of trails for hiking, biking or just leisurely walking. If you are looking for culture, be sure to check out the Civic Arts Plaza. This wonderful facility has become the go-to venue for world-class entertainment, musicals, concerts, children’s shows, ballets, and much more. And speaking of world class, Thousand Oaks is proud to be a part of the Amgen Tour of California, one of the premier cycling events in the country.

Thousand Oaks offers a plethora of shops and restaurants. The Oaks Mall offers over 180 stores and restaurants and features anchor stores Nordstrom, Macy’s, and JC Penney. There are numerous smaller shopping centers in the area such as The Promenade at Westlake, The Lakes at Thousand Oaks, North Ranch Mall and the new Shoppes at Westlake Village. Hotels in the area include the luxury Four Season Hotel, Hyatt Westlake, Westlake Village Inn, and Hampton Inn and Suites, to name a few.

Thousand Oaks has a variety of housing options: apartments, condominiums, town homes, and single-family homes. Prices range from this high $300,000 to $1,925,000 (in Lake Sherwood) for a condo or town home.  For a single family home, recent sales vary from $400,000 up to $4M (also in Lake Sherwood).  If you are in the market for stunning opulence, may I suggest a gorgeous 24,000 square foot home listed for $30M behind the gates in Lake Sherwood. Thousand Oaks is home to so many wonderful neighborhoods. The condo/town home communities of Hidden Canyon and Las Flores Villas have more affordable options. Upscale areas featuring single-family homes include Lake Sherwood, Hidden Valley, and North Ranch. More affordable areas include Wildwood, Lang Ranch, Conejo Oaks, and Shadow Oaks. There’s something for nearly every price range in Thousand Oaks.

The Conejo Valley Unified School District oversees the schools in Thousand Oaks. There are 17 elementary (K-5) schools including EARTHS (Environmental Academy of Research Technology & Earth Sciences) Magnet school, five middle (6-8) schools, and five high schools including Century Academy (Independent learning) and Conejo Valley High School, a continuation high school. Many of these schools are California Distinguished or National Blue Ribbon schools or both!

Several major corporations are headquartered in Thousand Oaks. Amgen, Inc. and Baxalta, the top two international leaders in the biotechnology field; General Dynamics Corporation, a leader in international high technology; Jafra Cosmetics, an international cosmetics company; WellPoint Health Networks, Inc., one of the nation’s largest publicly-traded managed care companies; and Verizon’s Regional Office all call Thousand Oaks home.
