As you start your home search in Moorpark, here is a little information on the city’s history, neighborhoods, housing, schools, and parks.

Moorpark is located in Ventura County, west of Simi Valley and northeast of Camarillo. It was founded in the early 1920s by Robert Poindexter and became an incorporated city in 1983. Old Town Moorpark is the area surrounding High Street, a beautiful street lined with Pepper trees planted by Mr. Poindexter. One of the highlights of Old Town is the Moorpark High Street Arts Center. This wonderful theater features live stage productions, musical events, and the occasional running of Hollywood movies. It seats 270 so is a great venue for intimate cultural outings.

Moorpark has one train station which serves the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner line (San Luis Obispo to San Diego) and the Metrolink Ventura County Line commuter line into Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

Moorpark schools are in the Moorpark Unified School District. There are six elementary (K-5) schools, two middle (6-8), and two high schools (9-12) including a continuation high school.   The majority of the schools are California Distinguished or National Blue Ribbon Schools or both. Moorpark High School has the distinction of being National Academic Decathlon champions four times between 1999-2008. They also set the record for the highest team score.

Housing in Moorpark consists of apartments, condos and town homes, and single- family homes. Condos and town homes range in price from the mid $200,000s to the low $600,000s. Single-family homes range in price from the mid $400,000s to over $1.6 million.   Moorpark’s most prestigious community is The Masters at Moorpark Country Club.   Homes offer up to 5,400 square feet and feature views of the golf course or open space. Moorpark has many lovely neighborhoods most close to parks and many near schools.

There are several shopping malls in Moorpark. Two are the Moorpark Town Center and the Moorpark Marketplace, both located on Los Angeles Avenue. Both have retail shops (Target, Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, Petco, Staples), restaurants and specialty stores and vendors. Moorpark Marketplace is home to everyone’s favorite, In N Out Burger.

Moorpark has two golf courses, one public (Rustic Canyon Gold Club) and one private (Moorpark Country Club). Moorpark Country Club was rated one of the Top Best Places you can play golf by Golf Digest. Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy designed the stunning 27-hole course. The beautiful 20,800 clubhouse has the feel of an English County estate. The banquet room is available for events.
